  2. Yes I currently work a role that is 100% commission. I have lots of thoughts about it.

Typically 100% commission jobs pay more, but it is because the employees take the risk of not making anything. So in other words poor performers don’t get paid. If you’re confident in your skills I would say go for it, it is highly rewarding and with time you can make a lot of money. Usually the money doesn’t come early on, it comes after you start developing a book of business and clients. I would never go back to a Salaried position because I don’t like making large corporations money without getting my cut!

It is truley a “reward for performance” situation. My only warning is that it can be hard to start out with when the money is not rolling in and you really need to learn how to budget your money and save for down cycles. If you have some money saved now it might be a good time to give it a try. I have had to bust out the mac and cheese at times, but with time you will learn how to predict future income.

  3. I have. The money is great when you are selling, but it’s real easy to hit a slump and get real hungry.

  4. I prefer working in commission jobs… you make more.

I’m not so sure about this company, the ad doesn’t make sense to me. Sales has changed over the last several years and this company is using a sales mentality from the 1970’s (beat them over the head until they say yes)

If this was a good job, salesmen would be lining up to work there and nobody would ever quit.

If you aren’t servicing the account, why do you get the residual income? What makes these 3-4 appointments qualified? What are you selling and what is the normal closing ratio?

You might want to check this out, but I’d be very leary. I’d also try and find out what your earning potential is after the first year (50K isn’t all that great for a really skillful rep)
